Growing up... and up... and up

Image
We went to Rhonda & Hector's last night for Collin's birthday dinner.  16 years old.  Geesh.  I think he passed me up in height (not too hard to do, mind you) in 5th grade.   It was fun.  Brandon had a great time as he always does there and Dale's mom made sauerbraten. Bread dumplings the size of Texas.  Meat marinated for days. How can you go wrong?  It was scrumshus. Dale gave him one of his HS Rugby jerseys for his birthday.  Collin really liked it.  I can't believe how old  he has gotten when I wasn't looking.  He is a sophomore in HS now and he made the varsity football team this year.   He doesn't get a lot of playing time, but it is quite the accomplishment!

LOOKS can be deceiving.

Brandon actually looks worse than he is.  The blisters on his tongue are scabbing up so he can eat now, but he is still not a really happy guy about the entire situation.  The poor guy.  I had to stop him from trying to pick the bumps off  his lip tonight.  Yesterday, I felt so bad for him and couldn't do anything to make it better that I just let him do whatever he wanted (within reason - I did take the sharp objects from his hands) He chose the toilet paper roll....I still keep finding little bits of paper everywhere.

Hand Foot & Mouth...no, I did not say HOOF & Mouth Disease

Poor little guy. Two weeks ago, Brandon ended up with blisters all over his feet, hands and bum. By the time i figured out it was hand foot and mouth virus, it supposedly wasn't contagious any longer. This is the 2nd time in 25 years it has gone through his day care. The 2nd time in 25 years ... what luck. lol There were several people at work whose children got the virus and they had just miserable stories. I felt almost guilty because Brandon really did not seem affected at all......the first time. This time, it started in his mouth. Blisters on his tongue and lips and now all around his lips. He keeps walking up to everything soft and tries to "rub them off". If it were only that easy. He couldn't eat because it was just too painful, but we eventually seemed to find some items that he was able to get down. Monday night he slept almost three hours. Tuesday night he only woke about 3 or 4 times. Tonight, I am hoping for many zzzzs for all of us. #1 Mom Award ...

Good Job, Mother

Ah, we have had an ABSOLUTELY PERFECT SEPTEMBER.   The weather has been beautiful every single day.   I has not rained in almost 20 days, but the nights are cooler and the days are warm with light breezes and the sun shining on us all.   I cannot remember a month that was so absolutely perfect.  We have a lot of wind where we live, so I also do not recall any time that we went so long without the big gusts kicking in.    I had to write this because I am always complaining about bad weather, so it is time to give ol' Mother Nature a pat on the back. Good job, Girl.
