Birthday Party Idea
I found this on line (sorry to the gal that posted it, I cannot locate where I saw it)
Detective Party for a 10 year old (i know, i have a LONG way to go, but I think I could adapt this to a younger boy's party)
We did a "Detective" theme for my daughters 10th b-day. It was great because it was fun for boys and girls. It was very inexpensive!! On the invitations to the party, we let the parents know what the theme was, and had the children come dressed as little sleuths.
Some of the things we did were: When everyone was arriving, we had a finger printing station. We just got some index cards from the dollar store and an ink stamp pad and had all the children do little mug shots with the digital camera and have their fingerprints taken then we put them on the index cards with silly descriptions of each child with a goofy "crime" listing on them. (those we sent home with the children) They also picked up little notebooks and pencils (also purchased at the dollar store) for other activities later in the day.
Then we had a table with about 15 household items on it and covered them all with a sheet. We removed the sheet and let the children examine the items or "evidence". After everyone had looked at all the items, we replaced the sheet and had them all write everything they could remember in their little notebooks. The child that could remember the most items was chosen as the "Lead Detective".
Then we had the Detective lead the other children on a case. What we did was plant clues around the house and yard with riddles for them to solve. In the end the children ended back in the house and located the birthday cake hidden under the party table (on a smaller table)
Another activity we did was to have the children "talk to suspects". In their little notebooks, they went around to all the other children, asking their names, ages, where they were born, names of their pets, favorite movies etc. and wrote it all down.
We all had a blast with that one. It was very interactive and
It's been our favorite so far.
